New: Single Speed Conversion Kit for Tuning Chip™ Dropout, Plus Instructions

An Otso Cycles Warakin Stainless with the new Otso Single Speed Tuning Chip Conversion Kit.

The people have been asking for it, and we’re excited to say that we now have a Single Speed Tuning Chip Conversion kit!

This kit allows for single speed conversion of certain geared Otso bikes and is compatible with all steel and titanium frames, including Warakin Stainless, Warakin Ti, Fenrir Stainless, and Fenrir Ti by replacing the geared Tuning Chip system. Carbon–e.g. Voytek and Waheela C–frames are not compatible with the Single Speed Tuning Chip at this time. You can follow the steps below for the installation instructions for both the flat mount and post mount brake caliper styles.

Be advised that the sliding aspect may limit max tire size depending on the axle position, so make sure you have a minimum of 6mm of tire clearance on the seat stays and chainstays of the frame. Here is a helpful guide to determine tire size by dropout location on the Warakin.

Installation Steps:

1. Remove rear axle and wheel and set aside, then remove rear derailleur and existing Tuning Chip system. You will not need the derailleur and the corresponding Tuning Chip system for future steps.

2. Turn the 10mm Tension Nut on the Left Dropout and Right Dropout all the way so that the Tension Nuts are making contact with each Dropout.

3. Install the Left Dropout onto the left side rear drop out of the frame (non-drive side). Ensure that the ridge part of the Tension Nut is installed in the notched section of the frame’s dropout.

4. Install the Dropout Washer and then the Dropout Nut on the Left Dropout just shy of hand tight.

5. Install the T-Nut and M6x16 Bolt into the Left Dropout just shy of hand tight, making sure that the Left Dropout can easily slide by loosening and tightening the Tension Nut.

6. Install the Right Dropout into the right side rear dropout of the frame (drive side). Ensure that the ridge part of the Tension Nut is installed in the notched section of the frame’s dropout.

7. Install the Dropout Washer and then the Dropout Nut on the Right Dropout just shy of hand tight, ensuring that the Right Dropout can easily slide by loosening and tightening the Tension Nut.

8. Install rear wheel and axle.

9. Use Tension Bolts to adjust the wheel forward or back to ensure adequate chain tension. Note: if you are using an oval or elliptical chainring, you will want to make sure the chainring is in the most oblong position to ensure you have proper chain tension.

10. Use a Caliper to check to make sure you have equal space between right and left seat stays and chainstays, and a minimum of 6mm clearance between the tire and any part of your frame.

11. Once the wheel is centered, check chain tension again and tighten down the Right Dropout to proper torque spec of 20Nm.

12. Tighten the 10mm Tension Nut on the right side to 1-2Nm, or just until it’s snug, to ensure there is no movement of the dropout. Avoid too much torque.

13. Remove the rear wheel and thru axle.

14. Tighten the T-Nut to the proper torque spec of 10Nm.
